County residents were treated to a rare sight Jan. 10 as a storm system showered the area with a wintery mix of snow, sleet and rain. Both kids and adults took advantage of the rare occurrence, playing outside and, in some instances, building snowmen. In light of the wintry mix and the possibility of dangerous driving conditions, Wills Point, Edgewood, Fruitvale, Grand Saline, Martins Mill and Van all cancelled school on Jan. 11 while Canton started instruction after a two-hour delay. The start of a new year is a good time to form some new healthy habits. One health fact that everyone should know by now is that walking is good for you. Equipment is minimal – just comfortable shoes. There are no gym fees, no heavy weights, and you can certainly go at your own pace. Listen to music, think, let your dog enjoy the great outdoors with you. Taking into account what the weather may be on any particular day (after all, we live in Texas) it’s a great time to take a walk around the neighborhood!
