Funeral services for Jimmy Lamar Newman, 84, of Edgewood, were held Thursday, April 28, 2022, at Hiett’s LyBrand Funeral Home in Wills Point. Burial was held at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Jimmy passed away on Tuesday, April 26, 2022, in Grand Saline.

Jimmy Lamar Newman was born on July 16, 1937, in Edgewood, to parents Perry Newman and Rebecca Waddill Newman.

He was a lifelong resident of the Edgewood community where he was raised, and graduated from Edgewood High School. Jimmy proudly served his country in the United States Army working as an electrical engineer, and later attended Henderson County College (Trinity Valley Community College) in Athens for business management. He married Mary Frances Newman and she preceded him in death. Jimmy later married Yuleta Morris on June 9, 1990, and they spent a wonderful 32 years together. He was the owner and operator of Newman’s Grocery Store in Edgewood. Jimmy was of the Baptist faith. He enjoyed playing cards and games with his friends and loved to spend time with his family.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Perry and Rebecca Newman; son, Don Newman; daughter, Cathy Newman; stepdaughter, Vicky White and brother, Larry Newman.

Jimmy is survived by his wife, Yuleta Newman of Edgewood; stepdaughter, Shelli Whitfield and husband Danny of Edgewood; brother, Perry Newman and wife Linda of Garland; grandchildren, Danielle Null and husband Tim, Dylan Wheeler and wife Aynslie, Reagan Hefner and husband Rance, Nick Schulz and wife Lorenn and Kayla Whitfield; great-grandchildren, Karsynn Null, Maddox Null, Felicity Null, Casen Schulz, Easton Schulz and Newman Wheeler.
