Joy Reed

Joy “Pezy” Reed, of Terrell, passed away peacefully on Nov. 29, 2019. She was born Aug. 20, 1936, in Farmersville to Delma Lee and Alta Ruth (Hall) Winborn, both of whom preceded her in death along with her husband, R.D. Reed, and siblings Laverne Brazil, Louise Allred, Ruth Bernson, Wilma Thompson and Delbert Winborn.

She grew up in Farmersville and on July 2, 1953, she married R.D. Reed and they enjoyed almost 55 years of marriage until his passing in 2008. On April 15, 1962, she was baptized at Locust Grove Baptist Church by Eldridge Hardy. She worked for over 20 years in food services with Terrell State Hospital where her smiling face was a joy for both the residents and staff to see every day.

Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Dana Reed and wife, Vickie, of Terrell and her son, Don Reed and wife, Daryl, of St. Elmo, IL; grandchildren, Caitlin Mitchell and husband, Colin; Henry Reed and wife, Emily; Jake Reed and Revis Reed; honorary grandson, Dakota Brewer; great-grandchildren, Jackson Alex Reed and Avery Joy Mitchell; special friends, Gertrude and Dwight Oakley of Hiram; as well as several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Funeral service was Sunday, Dec. 1, 2019, at Max Slayton Funeral Chapel with Rev. Tim Mabe officiating. Interment followed at College Mound Cemetery.
