Rosie ‘Wauneta’ Stone

Rosie “Wauneta” Stone, formerly of the Wills Point area, passed away Monday, March 2, 2020, at 4:17 p.m. following a decade long battle with Alzheimer’s. She was residing at the Sandy Lake Rehab and Care Center in Coppell at the time of her death.

Wauneta was born Feb. 5, 1937, to Jacob Edward and Birdie Lee Speck. She grew up and attended school in Oswego, KS. She married Arthur Laird Stone from the Altamont/Edna, KS, area on Nov 22, 1958, and spent her life being a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Wauneta is preceded in death by her parents, 10 siblings, and her husband of over 50 years.

Survivors include her children, Cynthia Diane Smith and her husband Terry from Irving, and Jeffrey Lee Stone of Longview; grandchildren, Stephen Beheler and spouse Sonja from Canton, Rachel Smith and spouse Lex Rosson from Edmond, OK, and Justin Smith from Irving; great-grandchildren, Natacha Bennich and Brooke Williams, Canton, Paige Beheler, Terrell, and Ellie Kay and Michael Rosson, Edmond.

In honor of Wauneta’s final wishes, a Remembrance Picnic is planned at Wind Point Park located at 6553 State Park Rd 55 in Lone Oak, TX, on April 18 starting at noon. Please bring a picnic lunch and your family as we share memories of Wauneta and our fun at Lake Tawakoni.

A private family interment of ashes will be held following the picnic.
