Velma Lee Howton Smith was born in Van Buren County, Ark. on June 18, 1933 and passed away on July 6, 2019 at the age of 86 years young and is now resting in peace. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother to many children from a large and loving family. After being a housewife for many years, she was employed at Wal-Mart where she worked for over 23 years and then retired.

She is survived by two sons, Doug Peacock of Wynne, Ark., and Jimmy Utley and wife Sharon Utley of Austin, Ark.; two daughters, Dana Taylor and husband, Roger Taylor of Springtown and Misti Hernandez of Quinlan; sister, Lois Howton Jones of Brinkley, Ark.; brother, Jerry Howton of Palestine, Ark.; 13 grandkids and 11 great grandkids; and a host of nieces, nephews and other family members and friends.

She is preceded in her death by her parents, Archie and Pauline Howton of Brinkley, Ark.; husbands, Thomas Utley of Brinkley, Ark. and H.O. Smith of Quinlan; two sons, Mike Utley of Jacksonville, Ark. and Jeffrey Smith of Quinlan; sister, Helen McDonald of Brinkley, Ark.; and two brothers, Billy Howton and Charles Bo Howton of Brinkley, Ark..

Funeral service was held on July 11, 2019 at Bob Neal and Sons Funeral Home at 300 W. Hemlock St. Brinkley, Ark. Graveside service followed the funeral at Oaklawn Cemetery. Those serving as pallbearers were Dennis Boyd, Rick Boyd, Daniel Howton, Dale Howton, Bobby Howton and Keith Dorman, and honorary pallbearer, Fred Hernandez.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to or to the in memory of Velma Smith.
