QISD public meeting on ‘Innovation Plan’ March 20

The Quinlan ISD District of Innovation Committee will hold a public meeting to review and vote on the final proposed District of Innovation Plan, according to Kathleen Witte, Director Family and Community Engagement.

The meeting will be held Monday, March 20, at 3:30 p.m. in the events room at QISD Administration Building at 401 E. Richmond, Quinlan. Questions may be addressed to QISD at 903-356-1200.


Tawakoni Civic Club meeting Monday

The Tawakoni Civic Club will meet on Monday, March 20, at 1:00 p.m. at the Lake Tawakoni Regional Chamber of Commerce building in West Tawakoni, according to Virginia Johnson.

Guest speaker will be Frances Dalbey, Executive Director of United Way of Hunt County.

Club members will discuss the upcoming yard sale and present a memorial for longtime member Rosemary Hambleton.


Quinlan FFA auction, fajitas supper April 8

Quinlan chapter of FFA will host its annual auction Saturday, April 8, at 6 p.m. at W.H. Ford High School cafeteria.

Fajitas and dessert will be served an hour earlier at 5. “Supper is free. Donations gratefully accepted,” the group states.

Proceeds will benefit scholarships, convention trips, training and to support chapter members.

Just over a month away, the event is the chapter’s largest fundraiser of the year. There will be many auction items made by FFA members as well as donated items.

QISD summer camp offered through ACE

Summer school camp will be operating from May 30 until July 7 at Quinlan Independent School District.

Tiffony Upchurch, Quinlan ISD Director of School Community Relations, said, “If your child has been unsuccessful in any core subject or on any of the STAAR tests, please keep these dates open for retesting and remediation.” For any questions, call the ACE office at 903-356-1270.”


Weekly activities at American Legion Post 517

American Legion Post 517 announced activities throughout the week.

Pool tournaments are held every Tuesday and Friday night beginning at 7 p.m. There is a blind draw for partners. Participants must be present prior by 7 p.m. to play.

Ladies’ Night Out is held each Thursday night from 7 to 11 with Karaoke by James Lee. He also brings karaoke to the legion on Saturdays at 7 p.m. There is no cover charge.

Big-screen TVs are always available.

Beginning at 2 p.m. on Sunday, a one-on-one pool tournament (single) is held. Participants must be present prior to 2 p.m. to play.


VFW Post 2559 weekly activities

Activities this week at VFW Post 2559 include Senior Night Out on Monday; Ladies Night Out on Wednesday.

Carol Pressley said James Lee would do the karaoke, and the kitchen would be open.

On Friday, karaoke will be by Lee and Cheryl, and Saturday is Juke Box Night.


Legion to announce raffle winner March 17

“The name of the lucky winner of the American Legion Post No. 517 ‘Once in a Lifetime” prize drawing will be announced at 6 p.m. on Friday, March 17,” said Sam Armstrong.

Legion members and their guests will have a meal of corned beef and cabbage beginning at 6 p.m. as part of the 98th birthday celebration of the American Legion that was first chartered in 1919 and also in celebration of St. Patrick’s Day.

The Night Pool Tournament will begin at 7 p.m.


License to Carry Class at Legion

American Legion West Tawakoni Post 517 will hold a License to Carry Class at the Legion hall at 236 W. State Highway 276 in West Tawakoni on Saturday, March 25, beginning at 9 a.m.

Sam Armstrong said, “Those that have a DD214 qualify for veterans’ rate with the Texas Department of Public Safety. Seniors receive a discount on the state fee.


Live music March 31 at Legion

The “104 Proof Band” will appear March 31 at 8 p.m. to closing at American Legion Post No. 517.
