Girls State delegates selected

Tawakoni American Legion Auxiliary Unit No. 517 selected girls for Texas Blue Bonnet Girls State. Shown, from left, are alternate delegate Kaitlyn Garrison, local Auxiliary Girls State Chair Lois Hudack, and delegate Briany DeLay. Sam Armstrong said, “Girls State is a program where 20,000 young women participate nationally at no cost to them each summer in a mock 51st state. There will be close to 600 girls at Seguin Lutheran University in Seguin during the third week of June. They learn by hands-on experience how to create bills and debate them at our state capitol. It was a hard decision picking the girls as the teachers at W.H. Ford High School and the counselor Marlo Scott had chosen eight different girls that were all well qualified to attend. ‘I only wish we could have sent them all, said Hudack.’”
