Quinlan gives nod to Whataburger requests

Council hires new city attorney, adopts game room policies

The Quinlan City Council approved variance requests Monday night for Quinlan Whataburger at its regular monthly meeting. The council also hired a new city attorney and adopted policies to regulate game rooms and gaming machines.

Code Compliance Officer Clayton Jackson presented the exterior building material requirements and signage variance requests from Whataburger to the council.

The company has purchased land in front of Walmart and adjacent to Auto Zone with an address of 8821 S. State Highway 34 for the location.

Jackson told the council Whataburger’s current proposed plan showed an exterior stone veneer masonry wall that was approximately three and a half feet in height on designated areas of the building’s exterior.

“Our exterior building material requirement requires 90 percent masonry; 50 percent may be alternative masonry materials such as cement board, stucco, etc. The zoning ordinance, however, does not permit stucco within eight feet of ground level,” Jackson said.
