Election winners take office in West Tawakoni

Winners in November’s municipal election in West Tawakoni took the oath of office Monday night in a ceremony at city hall.

Municipal Judge Hershey Barnett administered the oaths.

The city council meeting that had been scheduled was not held because of a meeting notice oversight. However, the swearing-in ceremony was held with city officials, staff members and audience present.

Winners in the election included incumbent Leon Myers who ran unopposed for the Place 1 seat.

Karen Cory won the Place 3 position that had been held for several years by Alan Shoemake.

Jared T. Calkins was the winner of the Place 5 council seat. Calkins won by one vote. He had 41 votes to challenger Bill Creed’s 40. Incumbent Dr. Donna Milburn did not seek reelection.

A December council meeting is not currently scheduled.
