Thomas Lee Vande Lune 1933-2017


Thomas Lee Vande Lune, 84, of West Tawakoni, went to be with Jesus, Jan. 22, 2018, in Greenville. A memorial service will be held at 12 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 3, 2018, at First United Methodist Church in Quinlan with Eric Rothe officiating.

He was born Dec. 30, 1933, to Mr. and  Mrs. Garret Vande Lune in Oksaloosa, Iowa. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the Navy, June 1952, where he served his country and then settled in San Francisco, Calif. where he met and married Jean Louise Burkhart on May 26, 1959.

He retired from his position as Vice President of Sosbee Company, a restaurant chain in Dallas, to pursue a restaurant venture in Jackson Hole, Wyo.

Upon their return to Texas a couple of years later, they settled in West Tawakoni in 1989. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Quinlan.

He loved his friends and was very blessed to have his community and church family. He was a member of the Quinlan Lions Club and loved volunteering with the Lake Area Shared Ministry Food Pantry.  He also enjoyed fishing and playing golf with his family and friends.

He was predeceased in death by his parents, three brothers, three sisters, and his wife Jean Vande Lune. He is survived by two sisters; one brother; numerous nieces and nephews; two daughters, Linda Waugh and Steve and Cathy Yates; grandchildren, Tommy Waugh and wife, Jess, Lisa Waugh and husband, Jonathan, Lance Warneke and wife, Paige, and Lynsey Yates; great-grandchildren, Witten,  Manning,  and Marley. 

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to First United Methodist Church
