Chamber presents ‘Inspire Trust and Leadership’ Feb. 27

The Lake Tawakoni Regional Chamber of Commerce will present a small business roundtable on the topic “Inspire Trust and Leadership” on Tuesday, Feb. 27, from noon to 1 p.m. at the chamber office.

QISD Senior Citizen Appreciation Breakfast March 1

Quinlan Independent School District will host its annual Senior Citizens Appreciation Breakfast on Thursday, March 1, at 8:30 a.m. at the A.E. Butler Intermediate School cafeteria.

VFW announces karaoke changes

West Tawakoni Memorial VFW Post 2559 announced changes in its karaoke schedule.

JoAnne Ringwood said James Burns would “still be searching your songs” on Wednesdays when burgers are served and Fridays from 7:30 until 11 p.m. There will no longer be a Saturday night session. She said Scaredy Cat Karaoke would be available on Sundays from 2 to 6 p.m.

 

Amvets expands karaoke schedule

Amvets Post 36 has expanded its karaoke schedule, according to JoAnne Ringwood.

“You can now sing with Bebop on Friday nights beginning at 9 p.m.” she said which is steak night. Proceeds from steak night benefit the ladies auxiliary college scholarships. Bebop will also be back on Saturdays at 8 p.m.

 

American Legion weekly activities announced

American Legion West Tawakoni Post No. 517 announced upcoming activities.

Burgers and fries will be served on Sundays from 1 to 4 p.m. through March with proceeds from the $5 donation benefiting auxiliary programs.

A one-on-one pool tournament begins at 2 p. m. Participants must be present prior to 2 p.m. Free pool on Mondays has been added. Pool tournaments are also held on Tuesday and Friday nights at 7. There is a blind draw for partners. Participants must be present prior to 7 p.m.

James Lee provides karaoke on Thursday ladies nights from 7 to 11 p.m. with no cover charge.

 

Legion E-Board meeting March 5

American Legion West Tawakoni Post No. 517 will hold its E-Board meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, March 5.

 

Estate planning workshop Feb. 27

The next scheduled free COFFE workshops will focus on estate planning and will be held Tuesday, Feb. 27, at the QISD Community Ed Building.

COFFE or Community Outreach For Financial Education brings free workshops to the area.

"An estate plan is not just for the wealthy," said the COFFE spokesperson, "it's what happens to your stuff when you pass away?" An estate plan includes planning for the individual, their children and their family.

"We'll talk about wills, trusts and other important directives," he said.

Open to the public, the workshop at QISD's Education Building will begin at 7 p.m. on Feb. 27.

Other COFFE workshops planned in the future include social security, Medicare and debt reduction.
