Quinlan Ford Panthers young but ready

This year, the Quinlan Ford Panther’s are competing in the 9-4A, Division I as they start in the Fall 2018 Football season.

On Aug. 17, the Panthers had a scrimmage with Mt. Vernon at home. The season opener against Caddo Mills is on Friday, Aug. 31 at 7:30 p.m.

Athletic Director and Head Football Coach Todd Wallace said that while the team this year is young the potential is there and that Caddo Mills will be an interesting challenge.

“Caddo is going to be good. They’ve got some skilled kids … a really good sophomore group. They got a senior running back that rushed about 1300 yards last year. We should have an advantage upfront so that’s what we take going into it,” said Wallace. “We’re just going to take it one game at a time. We got to finish strong. I felt like in both our scrimmages we kind of tailed off at the end. We have a lot of kids playing both ways but that’s the way it is going to be so we got to get conditioned and we got to be able to finish a game in the fourth quarter. We’ve been pushing hard.”

The Panthers have been practicing day after day preparing for the season opener against Caddo Mills and conditioning themselves in order to get stronger for this season.

“We are excited about the upcoming football season. Our athletes are working hard and taking more ownership in the team. We are young and do not have much depth, but do possess talent in our starters. If we can stay healthy and keep getting better everyday, it will be a really successful year,” said Wallace. “Last week's scrimmage was great experience for us. Mt. Vernon is a very good team that is returning nearly all of their starters from a 12-1 team from a year ago. Their defensive line was very athletic and gave our offensive line a great challenge. We were also very base on defense and ran only gun on offense as we were trying to work on our passing game. There was good and bad. We certainly have a lot to work on. High grade game scores from the scrimmage went to Garrett Davis and Bryce Barber.”
