Panther Martial Arts Hosts Annual Karate Tournament

The Quinlan Independent School District and Afterschool Centers for Education (ACE) Panther Martial Arts program will hold its fifth annual Karate tournament on Saturday, Dec. 1 in the C.B. Thompson Middle School gym. The competition is an excellent opportunity for the Panther Martial Arts students to compete against students from schools across north and east Texas as well as Oklahoma.  This year’s tournament is expected to be the largest for the Panther Martial Arts program so far.

The Quinlan Panther Martial Arts students get to compete in the tournament for free. Students from grades first through twelve will get to compete in sparring, kata, weapons, and Chambira. Last year QISD Panther Martial Arts students competed along with over 150 competitors. Quinlan students received 23 first place awards, 25-second place awards, 33 third place awards for a total of 82 top three places in the events.

“We are very proud of our students and the quality martial arts skills they have demonstrated at this tournament as well as other tournaments in the area.  The tournament season will begin shortly after this tournament for the students in the Panther Martial Arts program,” said Quinlan ISD Director of School Community Relations Tiffony Upchurch.

“There will be t-shirts for sale at the tournament.  The fee for spectators is three dollars.   All proceeds from this event will go to the Panther Martial Arts student activity account. This event helps the students with items, supplies and other events and activities.  The support of parents is an essential part of the success of the students and the Panther Martial Arts program.  If you would like to enjoy a good, fun, exciting family activity plan to attend the Panther Martial Arts Karate Tournament on Saturday, Dec. 1,” said Upchurch.

The Panther Martial Arts students are excited about upcoming events. Also, the Panther Martial Arts program in the spring will provide a free women’s self-defense class on Saturday, Mar. 2 from 12:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. and the Panther Martial Arts Family Banquet on Friday, Apr. 5 from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. in the Ford High School Commons.
